Rubber window gaskets

Digesters:

I was wondering what people have done about a common IH (and other old
vehicle problem). As you know, the windshield, back glass and side glass on
IH vehicles of the "Scout era" are mounted with a rubber gasket. IH used a
piece of mylar or some such substance, covered in clear vinyl, as an inlay
in the black rubber gaskets to add some "sparkle" to the large black
surround that the gasket creates.

Time and weather fade the clear vinyl to a dingy yellow and the mylar strip
within deteriorates to a rust brown color. If you pull this strip out to
get rid of the "aged" look, it leaves a blank groove in the rubber gasket.

How have other Digester's handled this mattter?
