Re: Alternators

When the truth serum kicked in, Steve Stegmann <stegmann@domain.elided>
blurted out...

>What is the name of that book. I want a copy!

Automotive Electric / Electronic Systems, Robert Bosch GmbH, 1995, 2nd
Edition.

At the suggestion of the engineer I was talking to at Pertronix, I ordered it
from the Society of Automotive Engineers. I was asking him where I could get
a detailed explanation of *exactly* what happens to each and every component
in the ignition system during operation. This book definitely does just that.
It can be ordered on-line at www.sae.org for $39.00 delivered. It's
definitely worth the price.

It covers *everything* electrical related in automobiles from breaker points
to computerized engine management, and everything else in between. It has an
incredible chapter on alternators... it just goes on and on with tons of
charts, graphs and figures. As I was telling John H., the book sort of
reminds me of the IH shop manual though... since there's no real detailed
index, you have to really *read* the book in order to find stuff. Then, once
you read it, you'll have trouble going back and finding it again. It's also
slanted towards Bosch stuff... they aren't going to give you performance data
for a Delco alternator.

As John mentioned, they have a bunch of books on the SAE web site that I would
*love* to have... if only I could win the lottery!

Regards,

John L.
