Hmm.. I changed the oil when I got it home.. it received a new filter and
5 quarts of Quaker 10w30 (what the truck used before, and I had a case
still in the back of the Scout!). That's usually the right amount,
though I don't think I've checked the dip stick yet... ;)

I guess I'll do that tomorrow.. Thanks, Joel.

When I bought my '72, it had an antenna mounted in the hardtop, centered
above the windshield frame, but the old farmer that had it before me only
put a 1/4" hole, not a 3/8" (or is it 1/2"?) in the top, and the antenna
was grounding itself to the top... SWR was through the roof!

I thought it was a bad antenna (we'd hit it a few times on various
objects) so I yanked it for a Radio Shack 102" whip.. I didn't have a
drill that would make the proper size hole, so I ended up using a file to
enlarge the hole, then used some electrical tape to help the ground (Yes,
I have the proper tools *now* and know more what I'm doing).. It was
better, but not great.. but with a 102" whip in the center of a steel
Scout II, that old 23ch CB that came with the Scout could *talk*. Of
course, the antenna hit on darn near everything... ;)

I can't wait to get the '72 back on the street with the antenna mounted
properly, and then test out my 100w linear..

Don't forget to hit http://www.offroadlist.com and look under the FAQ..
some good CB information there (no, I don't say this just because I wrote
some of it years ago...)
