Oh boy you made me remember. I had a distributor where the bearings wore 
and the shaft could bounce around just a bit.  It took weeks to figure 
out what the problem was.  And then I only found it through Divine 
intervention, certainly no skill on my part.  I was playing with the 
points once again and tried to move the shaft just a bit to adjust the 
points and *bingo!* it moved sideways.  New dist fixed it perfect!

Was weird, didn't bounce all the time.  Seemed like it did it more when 
the engine speed changed.  Course as soon as I knew what was wrong, I 
could see it with the timing light.
