Ok, my turn

So I've got this mild clunking noise coming from my scout. Recently,
it has gotten *way* worse, and now, in fact, it appears that my rear
drive shaft is coming apart!

Hmmm, I guess I was supposed to measure my lift, wasn't I? Anyhow,
with the triangle 4" lift, I think it is really about 5" in the back.
Apparently this is too long for my driveshaft. I've got an estimate
for about $100 to lengthen it.

However, I don't think that is what is causing the noise. BTW, this
"noise" got so bad that the whole Scout was shuddering every half-second
or so.

Anyway, it went away when I put it into 4 Hi, with the hubs on auto.
Of course, then if I drive in 3rd gear the tinny bell start making
noise, but that didn't seem quite so bad. Oh yeah, and I don't think
the hubs were locking - even though they were supposed to.

Arg.

On the brighter side, I've taken that job in Denver, and will be commuting
130 highway miles every day (this isn't the brighter part), and I have
absolute confidence that either of my travelalls, and my scout (once
I get this stuff fixed) will be very reliable transportation. My '75
drives great at '75 mph. Just need to get some car

And John, if you need to change lanes in rush hour, just start swerving
erradicly. Folks will gladly move over.
