Re: Paint Codes

Perhaps this will help identify the correct paint for your Scout II.
These are the standard colors offered in each year. I couldn't find a
list for 71, but since that was a short year anyway, I don't think there
were any changes for 72.

The paint code can usually be found at the bottom of your lineset ticket.
There are 3 or 4 lines starting with PT1, PT2, PT3. I believe the basic
color is on the PT3 line. For the electrically inclined, note that the
first digit of the paint code follows the electrical resistor color
code:0=black, 1=brown, 2=red, etc. The only problem with this is that
some colors are not classified in the basic color group that I would
place them in--is it a yellow or green or brown?

Keep in mind that you could also order any of about 200 colors in the IH
CT-399 Paint Book for a nominal fee--about $50. In the early '70's, 10
to 20% of the Scouts were ordered with these colors and for another fee,
you could order ANY color you wanted, just specify the paint
manufacturer's code, so there were a lot of other colors on Scouts
besides the standard colors.
