6V to 12V

I would appreashate it if UI could get some info on convertig 6v to 12v
on my L-110. I'm thinking about it and if I do anymore work on my truck I
want to keep that converson in mind. 
One point, I know I'm going to need to do some rewireing shoud I bump up
the gauge of wire, (14 to 12) for example?
