Doug,
   I took off the EGR valve years ago and made myself a block-off plate
for it. I took a piece of steel and drilled two holes in it to mach the
bolt holes, and put a lot of silicon under it before bolting it up. You
should buy a new EGR gasket instead of the silicon but I haven't had any
trouble with mine.
