Cams, emissions,etc.



Here's a few questions....

I would like to hear about the experiences of IH'ers who have rebuilt their
IH v8's with a higher cam.  I read some FAQ's about it, and am tempted to
take that route when I rebuild my 1969 v-345.  It seems noone goes higher
than the 5000 rpm "mid band" cam....what does it do to overall engine
performance?  Do you lose some of the bottom end power?...please let me
know...

Along with this, which kind of lifter does the digest recommend....I know a
cam change is needed when changing to solid or roller lifters from
hydraulics, but is it even available for the IH?  I would like to use the
roller system if possible...

Here's a short note about emissions....as far as I have seen, NONE of the
Canadian Scouts have ever been equipped with anything more than an EGR
valve, Deceleration module, and an automatic choke.  None of those charcoal
canisters for vapour recovery or those air pumps ever made it onto a Scout
up here, which goes doubly for the light line.

Speaking of emissions,  since both my trucks meet the 20 year "classic"
qualification now, I really don't have any need to worry about testing or
anything. However, I wouldn't mind if I could at least get my daily driver
to smell a bit better than my lawnmower....For those of you who have
managed to install dual cats in their Scouts, could you explain exactly how
you did it (I'm not talking about the actual installation of the Cat, but
the PLUMBING....)
