Re: ihc-digest V5 #197 emissions -- enviro nazis

Don't dispair about passing the emissions tests. My 77 nee 79 motor came
so close to passing the '98 standards *without* cats or air pump that the
emission tester said, "we can get that to pass the '98 test just by
tuning the carb just a bit". I had to laugh at that one. My unburned HC
was 115 ppm (225 ppm '98 std) and CO was 1.3% (1.2% for '98). The 77
standards were something like 600 ppm HC and maybe 4% CO.

I have the original T-quad carb. Runs a bit rich and floods the intake
with liquid gas every timeI shut off the engine, but operates ok on the
front two barrels but the rears just don't seem to work right. Have never
laid a finger on the carb as EFI is on the way.

I think the difference is the MSD and the Bosch Platinum plugs, new MSD
wires and a fresh distributor cap on my new Mallory dist.
