I tow a 6000+ trailer with my Grand Cherokee and in maybe 30,000 miles 
with this combination, have never had a problem, but !!!!!! it is set up 
really carefully and well. In general, I support your rule of thumb about 
gvws. I never felt so safe as in my Travelall towing a trailer.
