Tom's shackles

Tom, et al,

When I installed ProThane bushings on my Scout a couple of
years ago, I tightened them to the factory specs. The thing
rode like a tank. The factory bushings are different from
the urethane ones. You tighten the bolt and shackle against
the sleeve with the factory bushings. You tighten the bolts
and shackles much more on the bushings than the sleeve with
the urethane bushings. I used new nuts and tighened them to
just snug and a weensy bit more, just tight enough to take
out the side play. You have to be sure your nylon locking
nuts are in good shape. The ride is vastly improved, even
with the 20 year old Rancho springs. I think you still
might have the shackles tightened too much.
