Swapping in auto-lock hubs

Hey folks,

Is there any trick to putting auto-locking hubs from one truck(D44) on 
another equipped with manual locking hubs(D44)? Is there any way to tell 
if the auto hub is worn out before I put it back in service?

With all the discussion, I'd like to try them out.

BTW: Anyone is welcome to graze their old IH's in Eastern NC at my farm.
