345 int manifold

Hi! I'm still trying to take off my heads, and have the valve covers
and all auxillary parts off, but can't get the intake manifold off.
There is some strange little bracket over the #6 cylinder area of the
intake manifold that is blocking my removal of the bolt below and behind
it. It is holding nothing, and has one small phillips screw in the top
that could have held some small clamp or something. It is a modified
"C" shaped piece of steel, and is not bolted to the engine, though I see
no weld bead either. It appears to be epoxied or gasket-sealed on,
though it is painted and appears to be original. This is a 1973 345
that has had smog equip removed-it moved to Nevada for a while. I've
tried minor prying, beating with a mallet (rubber) and even a few
wallops with a 22 oz. hammer. It doesn't want to move, and my manual is
actually for a '68 T'all 345 w/no smog equip. Was this a smog pump
bracket of some sort? Is it welded where it blocks ALL access to this
bolt? No socket or wrench that I own, or have ever seen can come close
to fitting in this area. If it is held on by some magic epoxy, what
breaks this bond? I'm too close to stop now, and it's getting dark. My
tools are outside so I've got to run, but I'll check back in a half-hour
or so if anyone has any ideas.
Thanks!
Michael
