Ha!I have had this happen to me on a V8 Valiant(Aussie assembly) The solenoid coil was going(wouldn't work when hot)so I bought another starter.It bolted in O.K.,but wouldn't turn the 273 over because the gear was too small on it.I had to get another early-type starter with the correct gear(big teeth).
