Oils

Paul,
I can make that leak rumor not a rumor as my driveway has lots of
documentation. However, in regard to it costing more, I have had very
long engine life since the beginnings of Mobil I by leaving the synthetic
in for extended periods of time and changing only the filter. The change
intervals over the past 30+ years have varied depending on how I felt at
the time, but the results have been very satisfactory. I'd feel safe
leaving a good synthetic oil in for 15,000 miles or a year, and changing
the filter about every 3,000 miles. Doing this brings the cost of the
synthetic very much in line with the cost of a premium non-synthetic oil.
I'd like to point out that one of the advantages of the synthetic is that
very property that causes it to leak out of gaskets and seals that hold
back regular oils.
