(fwd) A *Gun Recall* by Klinton?

Condensed from a thread on newsgroup t.p.g.

Some unofficial news coming out of Washington about the 120 day study
period for the importation ban of cosmetically challenged semi-autos (and
it is just like the Klinton administration to do these things):

1. The ban on imported semi-autos is a done deal...120 days from now you
will not be able to import any semi-automatic firearms.

2. The administration is going to try to enact a recall/modification
program covering all "post-ban" guns that were "cosmetically modified" to
"skirt" the 1994 ban. These guns will have to be recalled and fixed so
that they cannot accept "pre-ban" magazines and they will have to take off
the thumb hole stocks too. That also means that any handguns made here or
overseas after the 1994 ban date that can take "pre-ban" magazines will
have to be recalled too and modified. That is exactly what Sara Brady
wanted and said she wanted after that guy shot the cops in New Hampshire.
Everyone knows that this program will put most gun companies out of
business. If you think that you can just not turn your gun in for
modification then you have another thing coming because they will hound the
manufacturers and use yellow sheets to find where the guns went. And if
you don't try to get them modified and you are caught with a post-ban gun
that has not been modified, they want to amend Title 18 to make you a
federal felon. And last week Reno assigned the U.S. Attorney Offices in
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Seattle the task of preparing briefs to
support recalls and prosecutions. (Note that Lloyd Bentsen did do a
"recall" of 12 ga. Streetsweepers and Striker 12's when he ruled that they
were reclassified as "destructive devices". The ATF went out and traced
all of the guns and their owners were told to either surrender their guns
or register them as DD's. )

3. The administration will also announce in 120 days that they will be
prosecuting any importer that imported "cosmetically modified"
semi-automatic rifles after the ban. That means just about everyone who is
in the Shot Gun News. Klinton wants to get rid of the importers and they
will tell the importers "give up you import license and we won't
prosecute".
