Denni and all,

If you haven't used the Fleetguard filters, you should. They are among the
best on the market. And Denni is right about the OEM's although he needs to
add John Deere to the distinguished list. They also have water filter kits
in the master filter book, along with coolant test strips in small (3 or 6
pack's Denni? I don't remember.) kits that you can afford to use. DCA
coolant treatment will make your whole coolant system last longer and the
Compleat coolant is about the best stuff you can shove in the radiator, a
bit pricey, but not terribly so.

No matter where you are, you aren't all that far from a Case/IH ag or
industrial dealer, or a Navistar dealer, although there aren't as many of
them in rural areas. I buy everything I can from my Case/IH dealer and am
almost rarely disappointed. BTW-Many of the parts (switches, engine parts,
electrical, etc.) were used on the medium duty line as well as the light
line and MAY be available OEM. You really have to check the price. You
have a 50/50 chance on the prices. I'm almost ALWAYS surprised. Too bad
sometimes unpleasantly. But sometimes pleasantly too. I'll take OEM over
aftermarket 9 times out of 10 if the price is competitive. Just be sure to
have that P/N handy, because they won't have the books to help you look it
up.

For instance, 2 years ago, I ordered and got a new shift cable for the '77
scout 2 and had it in a few days. When someone posted about it the other
day, I couldn't find my P/N and the counterman couldn't help. So goes life
in the IH lightline world..............
