Climate Control

I have a 98 E36 and the climate control module seems to be losing it's mind.
With an increasing frequency, the display goes blank and when it returns,
the settings are screwed up. Sometimes the heat starts up when it shouldn't
and sometimes the fans are on full when it comes back to life.

Any ideas as to the cause? Is there some part(s) that can be easily
replaced?
