Leo,
Are you using silver base BMW or brass base aftermarket bulbs? The latter 
have different resistance level than the former and are known to trigger 
the 'check lamp' message.
Next check the light bulb housing. Some are known to go flaky and either 
leave burn marks or disintegrate. That's is more of a problem with E36s 
than E30s.
Last, but not least, replace the $10 brake pedal switch.
