       First off there are alot of differences between the 2 cars. The 
floorboard sits alot lower in the ragtop than the standard coupe. Then are 
the doors with the glass, quarter panels and so on. 
       At todays market prices you can find a cheap ragtop on ebay and then 
if you really want a hardtop look for the factory hardtop offered on ebay or 
one of the forums. The hardtops do creep up sometimes here and there but they 
do get expensive. Also the hardtop on the E30 can be painted and takes away 
most of the work of making a hardtop. 
       Well I have given my 2 cents on this subject considering I own an E30 
M3 and an E30 cabrio also an E36 cabrio. Both cabrios have the hardtops and 
on the E30 I have removed the fabric(vinyl) cover off it and had it painted 
to the body color of the car and it looks amazing.
