US DOT E36 head lights came with integrated plastic lens protectors. 
There are European E36 lights available for sale from numerous vendors, 
but you have to swap the headlight clusters altogether to get the gla$$ 
covers.

Add more elbow grease and/or plastic polish. It will come off.
