High mileage BMWs

Tom
The 76' 530i with 488k had the original head crack, like they all did.
I bored the motor with the head replacement in 84' at 114k miles.
   My wife's 85' euro-732i has 505,050 miles. At 350k miles, I did a
valve & ring job after a failed fan belt had her driving faster to
make up for the lost air since the fan wasn't turning.
   Mom's 85' 735i only has 300k.
I have one customer with 1.1 million miles on his 70' 2800. I
replaced his cracked head in 84' also and bored it to 3.0 litres, and
lowered the compression. The current head & pan gasket have over
700k miles.
BMW probably doesn't want to be known for longevity. You don't sell
a lot of cars when people keep them decades.
   I still have my first, a 67' 1800 I bought new overseas, but it's
on jacks needing some "rust-oration".
