folks, you really need to watch this vacation autoresponder stuff. many are
just plain written wrong, and don't use the currect reply-to: when sending
messages out. Scott's is an example of such. don't turn them up unless you
do one of the following:

1) verify correct behavior with respect to sending replies (the most
   correct behavior uses the MAIL FROM: address in the transport headers.
   digest headers are crafted so that this points someplace "safe".)

2) verify that they only send one such message to any given recipient;
   otherwise they could bomb a mailing list with autoresponses to each
   message, which gets real ugly real fast, when they start replying to
   autoresponses with more autoresponses.

3) unsubscribe from any mailing lists while you are gone

i've unsubscribed Scott, and emailed him to let him know that he's welcome
to rejoin his list after the 3rd of January.

my assistants who will cover list administration over my vacation are
hereby instructed to (politely) remove any address which shows up with an
autoresponder.
