E36 aftermarket head unit to control CD-Changer?

The subject line sez it all.  Has anyone successfully replaced an E36 
stereo head unit with one that will control the factory CD-Changer?

If I recall correctly they are both made by Alpine, and the changer has an 
"M-Bus" interface.  I'm looking at an Alpine CDM-7874 which claims to 
control M-Bus changers...

Anyone "been there done that"?
