Actually, BMW does recommend platinum plugs for some newer models. For
example, my 2000 328i takes an OEM plug NGK BKR6EQUIP. A quick search on
NGK's website (http://www.ngksparkplugs.com) turns up that this is one of
their platinum plugs.
