Valve Retainer question



Hi All,

Need some collective wisdom from the engine builder/racer types. I have an 
early 95 M3 that is seeing some track time. Consequentially I am up in the 
6500-7500 rpm range a fair amount - I am running a JC chip which has the 
red line around 7200. I have heard that the early valve retainers on these 
engines were a bit soft and that they were changed in subsequent years. How 
important is it for me to upgrade mine, and just how difficult is the R&R 
of the cam shafts and is there anything else I should do while I have 
things apart?
