E36 brake light warning

I am clearly sick of this problem that comes and goes. i have cleaned the
contacts, replaced the bulbs with damn expnsive delaer bulbs (as others had
problems) but this problem though intermittend keeps appearing every few
months and stays for a week or so than stops. What gives.... please help
