You don't state whether it's an auto or manual transmission, but your best
bet is to check the owner's manual for fluid recommendations.
Most likely, it'll be using ATF (automatic transmission fluid), whether it's
an auto or manual trans. For a manual transmission, either Redline D4 ATF
or Mobil 1 ATF have been used, with success.
If manual gear lube is specified, Redline MTL is very good.
However, since you're talking about a 520i, you're probably in Europe or
Australia, so Redline fluids may not be available. In that case, find a
suitable automatic or manual fluid, preferably with a synthetic base.
