E: [uuc] E28 M5 radio question

Robert,
The easy clipping is due to only using one side of the bridged amplifier.
A head unit that has a spec where the output is greater than 3 watt RMS or
4.2 watts peak(maximum power from a 12 volt single-ended amplifier into a 4
speaker) has bridged amplifier outputs.

That means for each amplifier channel there is an amplifier driving the
positive speaker lead and an inverted amplifier driving the negative speaker
lead.
Grounding any of the speaker lead means that amplifier is driving into a
dead short. If the amplifier has a robust current limit circuitry it may
survive the long term short, other wise the amps will have been blown.

FYI, I have installed alpines with the two negatives
tied together and used all 4 positive wires. It works
but clips easily. The wife's car has been this way for
quite sometime. One of these weeks I will run new wires.
