RE: E30 low beams

Eric;
I have had the same problem on my 325ic...The first time I was lucky enough
to have saved some old ellipsoids from a 5 series. What I did was cut out
the donor lens out close to the edge of the glass, then carefully removed
the plastic attached to the lens with a dremel. On the broken lens part I
just finished breaking off the glass and cleaned up the pot...a little
urethane and your back in business.

While rummaging through some parts at a shop that was going out of business,
I managed to find a set of 5" Bosch Halogen Quartz Low beams #0 301 303 034
065(SBQ5)and H4 High Beams #0 301 302 101 064 SBQ5H)upgrade kit as well as a
set of brand new Hella lamp holder assemblies for a 1985 325
#6-312-1-370-853 and 854..Once installed, let me tell you the difference was
simply amazing...

Screw the ellipsoids...so I have a used set, pass side that is has a crack
in the low beam a little pit in the highs and the drivers high and low are a
little pitted. Also I have a brand new set in-the-box for the drivers side
#6312 1 379 185...best offer takes it all.

Subject: E30 low beams

Folks,
I've caught a rock with my driver side low beam big enough to punch a hole
through the lens. After some rain last week enough water had accumulated in
the lens to form a little fish bowl that eventually got the better of my 13
year old bulb.
Now I'm faced with the options of either buying a new bulb and patching the
13 year old sand blasted ellipsoid low beam or shopping for a
replacement/upgrade. I would welcome any and all recommendations for
replacement low beams, along with info on where to buy the lenses, how well
they fit the E30 headlight brackets and any insight into how much rewiring
is involved.

TIA,
alex f
