RE: best DIY mechanic tools?

FWIW, I own Facom, Snap-On, S-K, Craftsman, K-D, and others, including no-name, cheap-o stuff from Harbor Freight. For things that I use all the time, like 10-14mm wrenches, sockets and ratchets, I do prefer the name brands. Most of my name brand stuff was either bought used, or at steep discount. Personally, I can't justify retail prices for Snap-On and Facom.

For precision stuff, I happen to own 3 Snap-On torque wrenches (2 bought used), but have dial indicators and calipers from Harbor Freight.

I do virtually all the work on my cars (91 M5, 89 M3, 85 635 race car, 84 533i, 93 940 turbo Volvo, 93 Suburban), so the tools do get used regularly. ;^)
