brake flush and ASC-T

I just got my Bentley Manual for E36 and it says that flushing/bleeding 
brakes can only be performed by BMW dealer on E36 with ASC-T.  IS that true? 
  What if I had my brakes flushed by an Independent Shop?  What kind of 
equipment do they need to perform this operation?
