'86 535i Head Gasket Problem?

Hi all;
I've got an '86 535i which is mysteriously loosing coolant, and blowing
white smoke from the exhaust. I presume I need a new head gasket.

Anyone done this on an E28 535i? What parts will I need besides a gasket?
What is meant by a torque angle? Do I need a special tool for that?
