Remote Question

A thousand apologies, the message didn't leave my pc for the list :(

Here it is:

I have a '96 316i Compact, with a combined alarm, immobiliser thingy.

The remotes I got with it are about 2 3/4 x 1 x 3/8 inches, black plastic
with a light brown front with the words BMW Approved and one button. The
back says MPT1340 WT Licence Exempt.

What i want to know , is how long are the batteries supposed to last, what
type are they, and how do you get the thing open???
