If you have a newer car, the different tire size (if it's only on one end 
of the car) could confuse the traction control, causing it to trigger even 
though everything is OK.  I don't think 90 3-series cars had traction 
control, so it shouldn't be a problem.

However, the wider tire might cause the car to tramline more, and the lower 
profile will slightly roughen the ride.  Since BMWs tend to have a little 
better steering response and stiffer suspensions than many of the other 
makes, these two differences may be a bit more noticeable.
