Guys:
Need some help. 1989 325i 5spd My ABS warning light came on during a trip at
hi-way speeds. this what I have done to try and resolve the problem so far.
I have checked the ABS rings and all sensors, cleaned and reinstalled. I
doubt that would help as the warning comes on without looking to see if all
is well. Here is what I suspect, either the ABS brain is toast or if there
is a switch relay, it is toast. I pulled the abs box under the dash and took
it apart. Nothing obviously wrong but hard to tell since it is solid state.
Had hope for a fuse or possible source of the problem. If there is a relay
around the fuse box area, which one is it? Bentley does a very poor job here
and the owners manual is not much help either. Have I missed a fuse or is
there a possible area I have over looked? The relay or ABS box are the only
strong candidates.
Next subject. Replaced struts on this car and the right one is fine but left
one binds. What is the correct hardware for this strut? I have pulled the
left one and reviewed the order of parts and can find nothing wrong. Here is
what I see. strut, large washer fits over the strut, spring, spring cushion,
metal cover which fits down over the strut an inch or so. Next the large
bushing with a small washer on the bottom and top of the bushing, then the
locking nut. Not over torqued and the bushing turns free without load. I am
missing something as the binding is on one side when the car is loaded.
Symptom turn the wheel hard left when stopped and then straighten wheel, car
will be loaded left and want to turn that way, turn right and same pattern.
I know there is binding on that side (left) as I can turn the front end
using the brake rotors and see the right side function correctly but the
left binds.
Help
Thanks
