That's exactly right. I had the same problem with my fuel guage. I
removed the instrument cluster and rubbed the nut, bolt, and contact on
the board with steel wool to remove the oxidation. I also added a bit
of solder on the board an reflowed what was there. I don't know if
reflowing the solder was necessary but the instrument cluster was such
a pain to get out I didn't want to have to take it out again.

I don't remember that, but I don't think I ever tried it...
