E34 Rattling sound from front suspension

My E34 525i (M20) has this rattling sound coming from the front suspension
assemble whenever I go over
slightly uneven roads or surfaces. Its more of a 'clunking' sound like
something is loose. It only has this
rattling sound whenever I go over small uneven surfaces, if its speed humps
or something similar there is
no sound.

I checked with my mechanic and apparently this is a common problem on E34's.
The front brake pads is
rattling against the brake disc/caliper thus making this sound. Its actually
nothing to do with the suspension
itself, I had a look at the suspension and everything seems ok. Anyone know
if this is true or have had this
problem before?.  I find it odd, that your brake pads could be loose and
rattling!!. Anyone can verify this?
