AC problem and Fan Speed Problem

I recently replaced my water pump and timing belt. Once everything was back
together again I noticed no AC when I depressed my AC switch. The low fan
would come on but no AC. The rpms go up and I noticed that the compressor is
engaged but no cold air. I recently noticed that the compressor is engaged
all the time but with no corresponding load to the engine which I think
means that the compressor is running but nothing is happening. I have not
checked any wiring issues out yet as I was seeking the digest advice.
Last night I was investigating this and had the engine running with the AC
switch engaged. this morning all I have now is the fan in position 3 which
is the highest speed setting. I plan to get help from an AC shop but would
appreciate any insight you may have to offer.
Bentley manual really does not speak to this much at all.
