beemers

When I started working with BMW cycles in the early 60's, they were
Beemers. When I started working with BMW 700 cars latter in the 60's, they
were still Beemers. 1600's, 2002's; still Beemers. The ugly word Bimmer was
not to be spat from the sneering lips of the Hollywood/Marin yuppy who made
our cars infamous until the late 70's. The general public calls them
Beemers, as do many of us who refuse to yield to small-minded post-hoc
rulemakers.

(Not to disparage Mr Lesko, who was "corrected" by these same earlier)

As I was once corrected shortly after I got my first BMW, "now that you
own a BMW, refer to them correctly. The cars are called "Bimmers" and
the motorcycles are called "Beemers", as in the "Bimmer" magazine for
cars and the "Yankee Beemers" motorcycle club."
