E36 Climate Control problem

G'day folks,

Today while driving, my climate control unit was acting very strange. It was
going on/off every few minutes. The display was very dim... and I could not
change it with the controls.

Any idea if I need to purchase a new unit or could this be just a fuse or
resistor or something? I disconnected the battery last night and the problem
started since. PS - this is the electronic one in the '97 bimmer.
