Gentlemen
Do not shave the flywheels to lighten them. The flywheel is a "HEAT
SINK". Less material, less volume to absorb the heat.
In 73' before I had brains, I "thinned" down my flywheel for quicker
acceleration during auto-crossing. I was using a solid metal clutch, which
absolutely would not slip. You either chirped the back tires, or the motor
stalled.
I finished with a good season, but when I inspected the clutch parts
prior to the 74' season, I found cracks coming from all of the flywheel
bolt holes.
Running on a budget, for fun in the stock class, I didn't have a scatter
shield under the tunnel. If the flywheel had let go at 5-6,000 rpm, I
might not be writing this.
If you want a light flywheel, pay the bucks and buy a well engineered one.
