     Despite what some of the manuals say, it is NOT necessary to remove the
steering wheel in
order to remove the instrument cluster!  Once you remove the appropriate
dashboard trim panels (it is
also NOT necessary to remove any steering column trim panels), and remove the
screws holding the top and
bottom of the gauge cluster, you'll be able to remove the cluster by tilting it
down, getting your hand behind it to
disconnect the multi-pin and individual connectors, then squeezing the cluster
forward and sliding it sideways
behind the steering wheel.  It's tight, but do-able.  I've done it three times
so far.
