On many 2002's, the back-up lights and brake lights are on the same
circuit, so if something happens to the circuit, you lose both.
The wires coming from the back-up light switch are very exposed to damage
from debris, and vibration fatigue.
The harness going to the switch is pretty stiff, yet the tranny moves
around quite a bit. Chances are, you just need to have a "frayed" wire
snipped, trimmed back 1/4" and a new female spade clip squeezed on.
