<e34> wiper problem

This windshield wiper problem is related to an '88 535i e34.

The problem is basically that the wipers tend to stop elsewhere than at
the bottom of the windshield where they are supposed to. This happens
both when I turn the switch off, after a "one-sweep-action", and in
intermittant position.

And it seems like the problem becomes lesser after a while of use, just
like they (the wipers) are confused at first, and then after a while
finds out where the are supposed to stop.

Any solutions? Do I have to change the wipermotor ($$$)?
