Opinions/advice needed on buying an '85 524td

I think you'd be mad to pay that kind of money for an 85 524td.  Even if it is in good shape, it's not worth over 5K.

If you like the 5 series, and can only afford a few thousand, go out and find a petrol version of the same car in the paper.  Many owners of these are enthusiasts and will have references to garages and maintenance receipts.  
Not only that but you could pick up an 85 528e (the economy, petrol version of the same car) for much less money.


I have an excellent condition '83 533i and I know it's not worth any more than about 3K on a good day !
