Jack on control arm??

I went to local Sears to get one of my tires patched.

Obviously they needed to lift the car. When they did that, they used both
the lower rear control arms as the jacking points. (The upper control arm is
the one where the spring is based right?)
This is on a E36 btw.

Is that a safe thing to do?? I was afraid that the arm would bent. I talked
to the "Alignment manager" at sears, and he said it's fine.
