Re: Clutch Question

As has been stated, never use the clutch as a brake, they are too expensive
for that. I'll go further and suggest that you learn how to heel and toe, to
match engine speed to drive train speed, on the downshift. This reduces wear
on the clutch and strain on the engine, gearbox, and all final drive
components. A few hours of practice, and a commitment to heel and toe in
everyday driving, will soon make it second nature. It's fun too! BMW's are
perfectly suited to heel and toe down-shifting, with the brake pedal being
at the optimum height, relative to the gas pedal, when depressed. A simple
sideways motion with your foot allows you to match the engine speed to your
road speed while braking and downshifting. Voilå!

Anyone else with comments on this procedure?

Robin
