93 325is flaky transmission
My son's car (1993 325is auto) got the transmission rebuilt by National
Transmission for about $1,800. About 6 months later it refused to go into
any gear. I hauled it about 300 miles back to the shop (we got it repaired
there because it failed on him on his way home from college). When I got to
the shop the car was running good! I left it at the shop for about a month
but it never failed! I drove back home and I used it about 6 weeks when
again it completely failed. It does not drive in any gear selected (F and
R). I tried the "M" mode also. It makes a slight grinding type sound when
in gear (but the car has no motion). Another weird thing is that the car
wants to creep forward when in "N"!
What's wrong with the transmission? The shop wants me to haul it back to
them. I hate doing this again but I feel screwed by the shop otherwise.
They refuse to fix anything unless it's acting up while they have it. I
have already spent about $200 in fees with this car and wasted two days of
my time. The shop refuses to pay any of my expenses. Btw, the work is
still under their warranty which is written on the invoice. Do I have any
legal options? I feel like I need to take my car to the shop at my expense
and at least try to get the transmission repaired - if I'm lucky and it
doesn't work while they have it! I'll have to eat the expenses but they'll
make good on their $1,800 repair bill.
Any advise is greatly appreciated.
